Color Coded Style's Origin Story

I founded Color Coded Style in 2022 as a platform to celebrate the fashion and style of the African diaspora through interviews with Black and Brown fashion industry luminaries. As the brand grew, I recognized that curating events could deepen engagement by bringing community together in real life.

After a powerful conversation with an influential entrepreneur in sustainable fashion about its impact in communities of color, I curated a panel and pop-up shopping experience to amplify the dialogue in October 2023.

I moderated the discussion and created space for local designers and entrepreneurs to showcase and sell their vintage and handmade clothing and accessories. The turnout made it clear that there was not only a market for this type of programming, but strong community support.

Building on that success, in April 2024 I curated a weekend-long experience, The Style Revolution(TM): Sustainable Fashion, Waste, and Black Consumerism: An Interactive Experience at Eaton DC centered on sustainable fashion and Black consumerism. The event sparked dialogue on how cultural and economic forces shape Black spending on clothing and accessories, while continuing to highlight the importance of sustainability.

As captured in the opening reel, the weekend drew attendees from across the DMV, New York, and beyond—leaving with both valuable insights and unique pieces from local designers and artisans.

What's Happening in 2025 and Beyond

Continuing this vision, I streamlined event production in 2025 and launched the Style Maker’s Series (TM).

This series spotlights a new designer for each edition, giving my audience direct access to the designer and their latest collections. The concept is simple yet powerful –

Intimate conversations with sustainable designers of color, celebrating styles of the African diaspora.

On July 10th, the 1st edition featured Ivy Tettegah, co-founder of iLORM, a sustainable brand hand-made in small batches by artisans in Ghana. The evening was filled with engaging dialogue, a highly interactive audience, and stunning fashion.

The reel above speaks for itself.

On October 16th, for the 2nd edition of the Series, I sat down with Krystal Phillips, founder of Kaphill!

The conversation was rich and the audience was engaged!

Stay tuned for the next designer to be featured, coming in 2026!

My interviews, curated events, and more will continue, on camera and on digital media fashion platforms!

STAY TUNED!
